In America, he is revered as the “Father of the Nation,” and the country’s capital is now named in his honor. George Washington’s birthday is now a national holiday. The holiday has been celebrated since 1968. In all states, without exception. That is why retailers love it so much. It is a good reason to offer big discounts and lure shoppers into their stores.
On the one hand, Presidents Day comes shortly after Valentine's Day. But in practice, these two holidays hardly overlap at all. The sales are for completely different products.
If Valentine's Day brings discounts on cosmetics, plush toys, bath products, and small gifts for men and women, then in honor of their first president Americans offer discounts on everything else. Especially goods with patriotic symbols, shoes, clothes, and of course weapons (which, by the way, are prohibited from shipping!).
Some sales begin even before February 14, and they often continue until the very end of the month. These are the biggest and longest February discounts in America! At the same time, almost no one outside the country knows about this holiday.
The main February sales are in these stores:
- Macy's – the store has already prepared a link, mainly clothing and shoes;
- Newegg – a good selection of electronics, including tablets, smartphones, and headphones;
- Walmart – souvenirs, western/country/military-style clothing, patriotic-themed goods, electronics.
- Amazon – discounts on the company's own products, including Amazon Kindle e-readers, Echo, Fire TV. The company offers many discounts, thousands of products, but they are all not very large, mostly within 10-20%. Here you can find electronics, and here clothing and shoes.
- NordStrom – discounts up to -60% on clothing.
It is also worth visiting the websites of Levi's, Eddie Bauer, J.Crew, Gap Factory, Ralph Lauren, and Levi's. These clothing brands run good promotions in the US on Presidents Day in their official American online stores. Winter is ending, so you can often find winter collections there that they are selling off at big discounts.
