Gymshark Brand History
The Gymshark story began relatively recently. In 2012, 19-year-old Ben Francis went to the gym with a friend. Having become passionate about bodybuilding, he decided to make money in this niche.
Ben became interested in creating apps. Starting with websites to order, he released four fitness apps. One of them, IPhusique, even made it into the top of the British “Fitness” category. In the app, you could find out how to pump certain muscle groups and how to understand the machines in the gym.
Having had enough fun with apps, Ben and his friends created a website for bodybuilders called Gymshark. At first, there was no clothing on the website. They sold proteins, gainers and dietary supplements, which friends purchased using the dropshipping method. Ben even delivered pizza from Pizza Hut to accumulate initial capital and buy a machine on which the first models of sportswear were sewn.

After promoting the site, Francis, Hewitt and Richards decided to add sportswear there for bodybuilders. Ben thought — bodybuilders spend tons of time and effort achieving the perfect physique, but are forced to wear clothes that don’t highlight it at all. Why not change that?
