The brand was founded in Seattle in 1967 by Murray Pletz and his wife Janice ("Jan", which is where the brand name comes from). It was Janice who was responsible for the design of the first JanSport backpacks, and together with her husband they were the first to develop a novelty – a backpack with panel compartments. It could hold a lot of luggage, but at the same time remained compact. Now almost all backpacks that we carry on our backs are designed according to this JanSport “panel” design. Each compartment is loaded from the top, and they are in no way connected to each other.
This was far from the company’s last innovation. In 1975, the couple introduced the JanSport folding backpack for travelers. It could be worn around the city like a regular backpack, but it could expand, gain extra side compartments, and turn into a great large backpack for camping or long hikes. It also had thick leather on the bottom, so it could be placed on any surface without worrying that something would tear. Such backpacks from the 70s have survived to this day and are now sold for hundreds of dollars on eBay, where collectors buy them.
In the same year, 1975, the company first released its signature daypack, a backpack for simple travel around the city, from home to the office. Today, it is exactly these models that make up the bulk of the company’s sales. These are convenient, beautiful, and very durable items in which you can carry laptops, documents, or simply your favorite things, leaving your hands free.

From $35, that is 2150 rubles.

Amazon.com – good prices and a very good selection. You can even find models that are no longer available. Filtering by features isn’t as convenient, but Amazon has the best shipping conditions across the USA. Shipping will be free for almost all JanSport backpacks.
- 6PM.com – a site with permanent and very large discounts on shoes, clothing, and accessories. JanSport backpacks are sold here with discounts up to -70%. For example, one of the most popular models, the JanSport Right Pack, which originally cost $70, is sold here starting from $32. Meanwhile, in Russia even on Avito it sells for a minimum of 5500 rubles ($88), almost three times more expensive. At the same time, the selection here is very large: hundreds of models for both men and women.

Most popular JanSport backpack models
