Apple Event: Expecting iPhone 18 and Ordering Mac Mini

According to leaks, Apple will unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max — the expected evolution of the flagship lineup. The base iPhone 18 will likely sit this one out. The third new product could be the iPhone 18 Ultra — Apple's debut foldable smartphone.

The name could still change. Last season Apple already reshuffled its numbering: the operating system dropped the version number in favor of the year and became iOS 26. We wouldn't be surprised if the Ultra designation gets tweaked during the presentation as well.

Rumors about a foldable iPhone have been circulating since early 2025. Then in June 2026, a dual-screen mode option was found in iOS code — a strong hint that the project is close to launch.

According to insiders, the form factor will resemble the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8. The device folds like a book and, when open, turns into a mini tablet on par with an iPad. The outer display, if leaks are accurate, will be shorter vertically compared to a standard iPhone — making it easier to unfold. 16:9 video and e-books will look best in the expanded format.

The key engineering challenge is the hinge mechanism. Leaks suggest Apple has managed to achieve a tight close and a nearly invisible crease on the screen — something competitors have been working on for years.

There may be a trade-off: rumors suggest the iPhone 18 Ultra will lose one rear camera. If confirmed, the optical zoom on the foldable model would be more modest than on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

The compact desktop computer has received a major update, with a strong focus on on-device AI. The chassis has been shrunk to 12.7 × 12.7 cm — a footprint twice as small as previous models.

What's inside:

• Chips. The base configuration is built on the M6 — Apple's first 2-nanometer chip: a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, and a brand-new dual 16-core Neural Engine. Performance is up to 4.8× faster than the M4. For demanding workloads, the M5 Pro is available: up to 18 CPU cores, up to 20 GPU cores, and up to 4× faster than the M4 Pro.
• Memory. The M6 version supports up to 32 GB of unified memory with up to 170 GB/s bandwidth. The M5 Pro version goes up to 64 GB and up to 307 GB/s.
• AI. Hardware ray tracing is built into every GPU core. Neural networks run entirely on-device: LM Studio, Ollama, Perplexity Personal Computer, Claude Cowork. A couple of Mac minis can be linked into a cluster for large language models. AI-powered Siri is coming in fall 2026 — in beta and English only.
• Ports & connectivity. The front panel features two USB-C ports and a headphone jack. The rear has 2.5Gb Ethernet, HDMI, and Thunderbolt; the M5 Pro model adds three Thunderbolt 5 ports at up to 120 Gb/s. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 make their debut in the lineup.
• Displays. The M6 drives two 6K monitors plus one 5K. The M5 Pro handles three 6K screens simultaneously.
• Availability. Pre-orders are open on apple.com; units will reach stores on September 22, 2026.

On September 1, 2027, Tim Cook will officially step down as CEO. John Ternus — currently Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering — will take the helm. Cook took over Apple after Steve Jobs passed away and grew it to a market cap of $4.522 trillion, the second highest in the world after Nvidia.

The leadership change will likely be announced at the September 2026 event itself: Cook will kick things off, while Ternus will present some of the new products.
