The first little clothing store (back then not even just for women) was opened by the married couple Nancy and Rudolf Talbots back in 1947 in the town of Hingham, Massachusetts. The newlyweds painted the doors of their store bright red, and that symbol, a large distinctive “T” on a red background, remains one of the company’s emblems to this day.
At first, business was not going very well. But then Nancy took charge of sourcing products to sell. And her sense of style, refined during her travels in France (she was there as part of the Red Cross during World War II, where she actually met Rudolf), made itself known.
