Martin Luther King Day: big January sales in the USA!
On January 15, 1929, one of the most famous human rights defenders, Martin Luther King, was born in Atlanta. His great-grandfathers were slaves, and his grandfather was a poor peasant. His struggle for the rights of African Americans began in 1955. At that time, the Black seamstress Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat to a white passenger on a bus. Martin Luther King organized a boycott of public transportation that lasted 381 days. His house was bombed, and Parks was fired from the atelier. But in the end they secured equal rights in travel, and the Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in transportation was a violation of the Constitution.

Martin Luther King Day Sales
A recognized orator, he spoke more than 2500 times. Martin Luther King's most famous speech was “I Have a Dream,” after the march of 500 thousand people in Washington. Martin used exclusively nonviolent forms of protest, but was taken into custody many times. On April 4, 1968, he was shot, and just a few days later Congress proposed making his birthday a national holiday. In 1971, 3 000 000 people signed such a petition.
In the end, Martin Luther King Day in the USA was made a holiday by President Ronald Reagan in 1983. Now this MLK day is celebrated annually on the third Monday of January. This is one of very few public holidays in America. A time for marches, parades, and for some people — just a free day off in memory of one of the most outstanding fighters for people's rights and freedoms.
In 2020, Martin Luther King Day falls on January 20 (in 2021 — on January 18).
