🎮 What the PS5 can do and how the Pro differs

Eight-core AMD processor based on the Zen 2 architecture clocked at 3.5 GHz, graphics card with 10.28 teraflops of performance, 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. The 825 GB SSD runs at 5.5 GB/s — several times faster than the hard drives of the previous generation. Support for 4K, HDR, frame rates up to 120 frames per second, ray tracing, and Tempest 3D spatial audio.

The Pro version got a graphics chip that is 45% more powerful, a 2 TB SSD, and a Wi-Fi 7 module. The key technology — the PSSR upscaler based on neural networks: increases image sharpness without a significant load on the hardware.

All PS4 games run on PS5 without limitations. There is no regional lock — a disc bought in the USA will run on a Russian console without any additional steps.

📖 PlayStation adventures

This console has had more adventures than many of its players. When Sony released the fifth generation of PlayStation in 2020, the hype was unprecedented. The crisis hit semiconductor production — and Sony got in line for chips together with carmakers, smartphone manufacturers, and server makers. The console could not be bought in a regular store. Resellers built entire businesses around it: bots bought up batches in seconds and resold them for 3–5 times more.

Those who were not ready to overpay found themselves in the saying «good things come to those who wait for three years» — supplies normalized only in the second half of 2023.

During this time, Sony sold 92,2 million consoles. 132 million people log into PlayStation Network every month. There is no shortage, sales are stable — and now the company is steadily raising the price tag.
